WHOA! We asked Fungi Girls to make a mix of some recent stuff they have been listening to and they went ALL OUT. Read below to check out why they picked what they did and feast your eyes on the tripped out Gulliver’s Travels style collage art cover they made.
Records should arrive at our “offices” early next week and ship out accordingly.
01 // SAN FRANCISCO WATER COOLER - “Rocker’s Escape”
Really overlooked band that released an album on KDVS a few years back. Members of Residual Echoes.
02 // THE BEACH BOYS - “You’re So Good To Me”
A perfect pre-Pet Sounds Beach Boys song.
03 // LEE HAZLEWOOD - “Forget Marie”
One of my favorite songs from one of my favorite artists, Lee Hazlewood. Psych country pop. Nice for rainy days.
04 // THE FRESH & ONLYS - “Elevator”
The Fresh & Onlys are one of our favorite newer bands. Continually really great tunes on every release.
05 // ? AND THE MYSTERIANS - “Need Somebody”
Makes you wanna dance.
06 // THE INTERNATIONAL SUBMARINE BAND - “Blue Eyes”
Song off the first album with “cosmic county” icon Gram Parsons. His best.
07 // HOWLIN’ WOLF - “Howlin’ For My Baby”
Usually not much for electric blues at all, but the early Chicago electric blues sound like this was great. This song in particular is really, really good and really shows off Wolf’s voice.
08 // CHANTAL GOYA - “Tu M’as Trop Menti”
Chantal Goya was mostly known for her singing for children in the 70’s, but prior to that she made some ye-ye/french pop oriented records in the 60’s. This one comes off of a kind of obscure EP. Not only is it a really great pop song, but the drumming in it is pretty great.
09 // THE PETTICOATS - “Normal”
One woman art punk. Off-tempo and rough on the ears, but still really good.
10 // SMITH WESTERNS - “Gimme Some Time”
Like the Fresh & Onlys, another one of favorite newer bands. Literally every track on their Hozac LP was great, with this being one of the highlights.
11 // THE PLEASURE SEEKERS - “What A Way To Die”
Garage classic. Pretty raunchy.
12 // LEE HAZLEWOOD & SUZI JANE HOKOM - “Nobody Like You”
This song is a duet with Hazlewood’s then-girlfriend and is probably the most psychedelic of all of Lee Hazlewood’s stuff.
13 // PINK FLOYD - “See Emily Play”
It doesn’t get much better than Syd Barrett-era Pink Floyd.

Fungi Girls are three high school kids from Texas. They’ve released records on Hozac, Play Pinball and Psychic Lunch. For their Group Tightener release, the trio recorded twin bursts of catchy garage-psych that will force its way into your brain and probably chill there for months and months.
